Man pulled from icy waters at Walker Lake
A man was pulled from cold water at Walker Lake, just north of Otter Tail Lake, after his snowmobile crashed through thin ice on Dec. 16 close to noon.
Ottertail city rescue crews pulled the man, Hubert Hovland, out of the water and transported him to the hospital in Perham.
"The victim had been in the water for about a half hour and suffered severe hypothermia," said County Sheriff Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
Two nearby fishermen attempted to rescue Hovland before first responders arrived. They also broke through the ice but were able to escape.
County fish house break-ins reported
Two fish house break-ins were reported on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17 in Otter Tail County.
The first break-in, on Dec. 16, was reported at Wintergreen Road on the north side of Big Pine Lake near Perham. Fishing tackle was stolen.
The second break-in took place at a fish house on Lake Lizzie, northeast of Pelican Rapids. Taken were an ice auger valued at $400 and fishing tackle estimated at close to $300.
Construction fall results in broken arm
A man who fell 20 feet at a construction site near Marion Lake, southeast of Dent, escaped serious injury but did suffer a broken arm on Dec. 14.
The victim was Aaron Poser, 41, of Perham.
"This injury could have been much worse, and it could have even been fatal," said Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke.
The incident remains under investigation by law enforcement and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Pelican Rapids man dies in home accident
Jacob Donald Arntson, 33, of Pelican Rapids, died during an accident at his home late in the evening of Dec. 13 or after midnight on Dec. 14.
"He was working on a vehicle and became trapped under his truck in his garage," said Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department Administrative Lt. Keith Van Dyke on Dec. 15. "It appears that the vehicle fell atop the victim when he was working on the truck."
Deputy reports said a person came upon the scene after midnight, close to 3:15 a.m., on Dec. 14. It's possible Arntson died before midnight on Dec. 13.
The location was listed as Ridge Crest Drive, close to Chauncey Martin Field in southeast Pelican Rapids. Police personnel from Pelican Rapids were also called to the scene of the accident.
